From Encouraging Reading to Establishing a Private Children's Library: The Toughness and Motivation of Taiwanese Housewives

摘要

本文旨在闡述一般民間自發性圖書館的誕生，包括其源流、背景環境、成立動機、創設過程、後續挑戰以及發展方向，藉此呈現出一家民間圖書館的主要精神與意義所在；也展示了一群新手媽媽，如何從附屬家庭逐步解放出來，並進一步學習、成長，最終走向社會關懷、服務人群的過程。一方面記錄了一路上的轉折、歷程，一方面也描繪了樂在其中的追求；是對過去的審思，也是對未來的展望與期許。文章分為七段，第一段前言；第二段描述一般家庭主婦所面對的困境，然後經由袋鼠媽媽讀書會，開啟了自我成長與走入人群的大門；第三段步入故事媽媽階段，這是從家庭成長轉折到服務人群的關鍵時期；第四段則是在累積了經驗與省思後，確立閱讀推廣為服務的主要動機與動力來源；第五段開始進一步實踐理想，成立新樹幼兒圖書館；第六段是理想的經營與成長，介紹圖書館成立後參與社區、貼近社區所進行的活動；第七段是面對服務對象，進一步思考服務的各種可能性，並發展為更進一步走出圖書館、走入社區的服務方式。

This article is mainly to introduce the aim and mission of Little Tree Children's Library from the perspective of the development of the private libraries, including the sources, the background, the motivation, the process of establishing, the follow-up problems, and the future goals. It also gives an account of the process of a group of housewives' liberation from their families, their growth, and finally their dedication to social work. It records not only the difficulties and obstacles they have encountered, but also the happiness and joy they have felt. Those ideas mentioned here stand for the reviews of the past, as well as the expectations toward the future.There are seven paragraphs in this article, of which the main points are the predicament that housewives are usually in, a turning point in their self-development, their volunteering for social work and their motivation, the fulfillment of their ideal: the establishment of Little Tree Children's Library, the management and development of Little Tree Children's Library, and the strategies for confronting the challenges.
