Merkel Cell (Neuroendocrine) Carcinoma: Report of Two Cases and Literature Review

We report here two rare cases of primary Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) of the skin. The tumor was observed to exhibit characteristic immunohistochemical (coexpression of cytokeratin and neuron-specific enolase) and ultrastructural (dense core granules and a globular aggregate of intermediate filaments) features. We have also reviewed the literature concerning the patients with MCC.
