In this study, PVA polymer was added on the primary and backup slurries to produce the ceramic shell mold. Effects of the PVA polymer additive on the green strength, hot strength, fired strength and permeability of the ceramic shell mold was studied. In addition, the basic properties of the non-PVA polymer added ceramic shell mold were also compared. Experimental results showed: The green strengths of the ceramic shell mold were increased, both the hot strength and fired strength were decreased, with the addition of the PVA polymer on the primary and backup slurries. As to the high temperature permeability of the ceramic shell mold, no significant effect was found when PVA polymer was added on the primary slurry, but, the permeability was greatly improved when PVA polymer was added on the backup slurry.
