The addition of various alloy elements can influence mechanical properties of nodular graphite cast irons. In this study, the two nodular graphite irons with and without adding trace copper and silver alloy were produced by sand casting method, and then the effects of Cu-Ag addition on microstructure and mechanical properties of the irons were explored. The experimental results showed that nodular graphite iron containing 0.5%Cu and 0.5%Ag could promote the formation of a large number of pearlite and a little vermicular graphite, and slightly decrease nodule count. Such a result, both hardness and tensile strength of nodular ductile iron had an increase, but there was a reduction in ductility and impact toughness.
