In this study, ductile cast iron (DI) was austemper-treated to produce austempered ductile iron (ADI). The wear tests were carried out in 3.5 wt% NaCl and without 3.5 wt% NaCl solution to compare the wear/corrosion resistance of both DI and ADI. Metallographic tests, X-ray diffraction analysis, and hardness tests were also conducted to understand the effects of microstructure and hardness on corrosion wear behavior of the irons. The immersion test in 3.5 wt% NaCl was also carried out for a comparison between corrosion behavior of DI and ADI. The experimental results showed that the corrosive wear resistance of ADI is better than that of DI because of its high hardness and retained austenite.
