For the purpose of estimating body center of pressure in the scoliotic patients,, thirty-seven normal subjects and sixty-one idiopathic scoliotic patients were evaluated with a computerized stabilogram and dynogram. Their age ranged from 6 to 47 years old. The scoliotic curves were classified into right thoracic, left lumbar., and S-shaped double curves according to King’s classification. All the subjects were asked to be evaluated with their eyes open and eyes closed. The pressure of feet was recorded by 8 sensors under each foot and analyzed in the computer. The lateralization of the center and the sway of center were found to be abnormal in scoliotic patients. Postural insta-bility was greater in patients with lumbar scoliosis or with double major curves. Visual correction is contributory to the maintenance of postural stability in scoliosis. Postural instability is not a secondary change of spinal deformity.
