From 1984 to 1990, there were 220 hips in 165 patients who were less than 40 years old received total hips arthroplasty without cement in MMH. They were followed up from 4 to 10 years (average 6.4 years) after surgery. The reasons for the total hip arthroplasty included avascular necrosis of the femoral head, osteoarthritis, SLE, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis etc. At following up , there was 78% excellent result by the Harris-rating score. The total revision rate were 11.8% . Comparing to the previous report, we found that non-cemented total hip arthroplasty can give acceptable results in patients who are under 40 years old and the prosthesis could be long-lasting if the patients are willing to avoid running , jumping, heavy labor, and lifting heavy materials.
