Effect of Young Barley Leaf Essence on Serum Lipids in Hamsters

大麥苗榨汁對倉鼠血脂質之影響

摘要


本研究旨在探討大麥苗(Young barley leaf essence, BL)對倉鼠血脂質之影響。72隻雄性倉鼠隨機分為6組,分別為低脂飲食組(Rat chow, RC)、以14%高油與0.2%膽固醇誘發倉鼠高脂血症為控制組(Control C)或同時餵食α-生育醇(150 mg/kg diet, E)、1%、3%或5%的大麥苗。動物飼養6週後,取其血液進行血脂質相關生化分析。實驗結果顯示攝取3%或5%大麥苗均可顯著降低血清三酸甘油酯(TG)、總膽固醇(TC)及低密度脂蛋白膽固醇(LDL-C)濃度,並提升HDL-C/LDL-C;攝取5%大麥苗亦可降低肝臟與體重之比例。而血清高密度脂蛋白膽固醇濃度在此研究中並不受攝取大麥苗或α-生育醇之影響。綜合動物實驗結果,顯示補充3-5%大麥苗可調節血清脂質,降低動脈粥狀硬化之危險因子。

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of young barley leaf essence (BL) on serum lipids. Seventy-two Syrian hamsters were randomly divided into 6 dietary groups fed one of the following diets: α-tocopherol (150 mg/kg diet; E), with 1%, 3% or 5% BL, or a blank (control; RC) in a high-fat (14%) high-cholesterol (0.2%) diet, or a low-fat diet (rat chow; RC). Blood samples were obtained after 6 weeks of feeding and various serum lipid levels were determined. Results demonstrated that ingestion of 3% or 5% BL significantly reduced the levels of serum triacylglycerol, total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), and enhanced the HDL-C/LDL-C ratio. Intake of the 5% BL diet also reduced the ratio of the liver wt/body wt. Levels of high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol were not affected by the treatments in the study. In conclusion, ingestion of 3-5% of BL in the diet can decrease serum lipids and may reduce risk factors for atherosclerosis.
