Implementation of a Finger Skin Temperature Stress Evaluation System for Prolonged Driving

Prolonged monotonous driving may lower driver awareness and increase driver stress, which may result in increased traffic accident risk. Studies have used electrocardiogram signals to assess driver stress, but accuracy is susceptible to interference and this method is less flexible. Using finger skin temperature as a physiological variable is noninvasive, convenient, and sustainable. This study uses skin temperature as a possible indicator of driver stress to reduce the incidence of potentially dangerous situations. Results show that the system is feasible and accurately determines driver stress. The system is flexible, accurate, low cost, lightweight, and can be used in cars to reduce traffic accident risk.
