'To witness the development of the nation and create national intelligence assets' is the mission of the National Archives. Using the macro-appraisal, this research explored the subject classification of the National Archives in the urban development by examining the archive work of three countries, UK, New Zealand, and Mainland China. In addition, this study revealed the subject classification schemes of Taiwan national archives in the urban development from 1949 to 2000 by reviewing historical events and using the concept of the saurofacet. The research findings can serve the national archives in terms of collection, conversion, and administration as well as the construction of archival information system.
