How to interpret the concept of Mind-Heart in Mencius' philosophy is a controversial issue. But many contemporary Chinese philosophers, such as Xiong Shili, Mou Zongsan and Tang Junyi, object the naturalistic interpretation of Mencius' philosophy definitely, and try to reconstruct Mencius' philosophy of Mind-Heart through a transcendental method. There are many insightful discussions about Mencius' philosophy in Tang's books, which deal with some important problems that are crucial to understand Mencius' thought of Mind-Heart, such as the essence of Mind-Heart, the meaning of duan (端), how to extend (擴充) the Mind-Heart, and the relationship between feeling and reason, etc. In this article, I will explain Tang's discussions systematically, and point out the significance of Tang's interpretation of Mencius' philosophy.
