高度近視黃斑部退化患者之血清中銅鋅值之研究

Study of Serum Copper and Zinc Level in Myopic Maculopathy

摘要

Myopic maculopathy is one of severe complications of myopia which cn cause blindness. The metabolism of copper and zinc had been suggested to be correlated with abnormality of the pigment epithelium of retina. We collected 70 high myopic patients (＞-8.0D) without other severe diseases may influence the serum copper and zinc levels. Each patient had the data of refractive errors, axial lengths and fundus photography and macular grading. Ten ml venous blood was taken from each patient and measured by anatomic absorption spectrophotometer. Data showed that zinc level was significantly decreased in patients who have macular lesions either patchy atrophy or lacquer crack at least. This result was more specific to the group of age older than 40 years old. In contrast, the copper level did not show any significant change in both groups of macular degeneration either patchy atrophy or lacquer crack. Thus, serum zinc level may be a good indicator in myopic macular degeneration and zinc therapy may be another way in prevention and treatment of macular degeneration.
