Neurobehavioral Changes Following Bilateral Basal Ganglia Infarctions - A case Report

A 69-year-old man with bilateral basal ganglia infarctions associated with acute neurobehavioral changes was admitted. The patients showed apathy, loss of spontaneity, confusion, impaired memory, and reduced abstract and judgment ability. This case supports a role for the basal ganglia in behavioral and cognitive functions and also demonstrates that unilateral caudate and globus pallidus lesions can be endured until opposite lesions occur.
