Finland has been reforming its comprehensive educational system for years, and this system has been rated as one of the best in the world. In the 2006 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), Finland was ranked number one in science, and number two in both reading literacy and mathematics. This article discusses the characteristics of the comprehensive education system in Finland, and then introduces its new national core curriculum, which has been in effect since 2006. Finally, the results of the PISA will be analyzed in order that readers may further understand the educational system in Finland.
