CT APPEARANCE OF HEPATIC OIL EMBOLISM FOLLOWING LYMPHOGRAPHY

The incidence of hepatic oil embolism is extremely low, it occurs only in 0.19-0.8% of patients after lymphography. The oily contrast medium reaches the liver via lymphatic-venous anastomosis secondary to partial or complete obstruction of the iliac or retroperitoneal lymph pathway, this may or may not be combined with inferior vena cava obstruction. We have a case of prostatic carcinoma with extensive retroperitoneal lymph node metastasis, the CT performed seven days after lymphography showed unique appearance of hepatic oil embolism.
