Due to the great success of IP network and the large progress on video compression technology, IP cameras become widely used and draw people’s attention in these years. The possible applications include remote surveillance system, traffic event recorder, etc. However, the lack of a world-wide standard causes the interoperability issue among various IP camera products from different vendors. This issue is quite inconvenient to both the vendors and the consumers. In this article, we present an overview on two popular IP camera open standards, ONVIF and PSIA, respectively. We also compare the design philosophy of the two standards.
