If a security surveillance system only monitors video, it is difficult for a user to know the situation around every monitoring site. At this moment, electronic map is an efficient method for showing where a surveillance object located and how an object moved. However, the commercial GIS software often has several problems when applied to a new science park or a natural disaster area. These problems include high cost, difficulty of GIS upgrade, depending on WAN network, low working efficiency, etc. Therefore, it is not a suitable choice for security surveillance systems. Our team members designed and implemented an electronic map system for local area security surveillance. In addition, we had tested our system in a science park in Taiwan to prove the system usability.
