Lead shot within the orbit removed under inducement of a long needle is described.
By this method the extraction was made successfully in one case, who did not want to have his injured eyeball enucleated in spite of remaining lead shot in postorior orbit.
METHOD: Before the extraction operation posterior-anterior and lateral skull X-ray were taken, so a rough estimate of the location of this lead shot is performed. Thus we could insert a long needle approaching the lead shot without difficulty under direct view with an aid of fluoroscope. After confirming that the point of the needle reached or past near-by the lead shot, one must fix this neede exactly. After skull X-ray films of two directions were repeated, the extraction operation is performed under inducement of this orientationg needle till grasping the lead shot succeded.
This method is so simple that no specialized equipment is necessary. The author believes that this method will be able to be applied in removing foregin body in the orbit as well as in other parts of the bony.
