This is a retrospective study on 400 cases obtaining from the in-patients of NTUH due to industrial ocular injury in recent 20 years. (1956-1975) Based on the statistical observation, the conclusions were summarized as following: 1) The incidence of industrial ocular injury is 37% of all kinds of ocular injury during recent 20 years. 2) Most injury comes from mechanical trauma, it occupies 87% of all injury cases. Intraocular foreign body retention occurs most frequently in industrical ocular injury, 44.3%. 3) Age distribution of the patients: 88.8% of patients fall in the group of age between 15 to 40. 5) Laterality: Right eye involvement is 42.7%, left eye involvement 49%, Bilateral occurrence 8.3%. 4) Sex distribution: Male 97%, Female 3%. 6) Industrial injury most frequently occurs in the period from 10 am. to. 12 noon and during the night duty time. 7) Industrial injury occurs most frequently in October and less frequently in February. We consider it to be significant, because Chinese people had a long vacation for Chinese lunar new year in February. 8) Magnetic metal penetration is the most frequent cause (76.43%) in mechanical ocular injury and alkali is that in non-mechanical injury (42.30%). 9) Visual prognosis is usually poor, 45% of patients had a vision less than 0.01 at the time of discharge. 6.75% patients had vision of 0.01 to 0.09; 17.5% had 0.1 to 0.3; 9.5% had 0.4 to 0.6; 11.75% had 0.7 to 0.9; 6.75% of patients had vision over 1.0.
