We studied 23 eyes of 13 patients undergoing argon laser iridotomy for angle closure glaucoma and another 5 eyes of 3 patients undergoing argon laser gonioplasty for chronic angle closure glaucoma. Preoperative and postoperative corneal endothelial cell density by specular microscopy were obtained in the central area and in the superotemporal area. There were no significant differences between preoperative and postoperative corneal endothelial cell density in the central and superotemporal areas and anterior chamber depth of all treated eyes within one month. The differences between preoperative and postoperative corneal thickness of eyes undergoing argon laser iridotomy were insignificant, but that of eyes undergoing argon laser gonioplasty were statistically significant after follow-up periods of one month.
