Purpose: To review the principles of diagnosis and management in pediatric uveitis patients. Methods: Review of literature. Results: A search of Medline was conducted for indexed journal articles related to the diagnosis of pediatric uveitis up to 2007. Conclusion: Pediatric uveitis is rare but devastating to the vision. The visual prognosis is guarded if the inflammation is poorly controlled. Systemic rheumatic disease and complications related to the disease itself and medical treatments are the challenges to the general ophthalmologists. Early diagnosis, appropriate use of corticosteroids and immunosuppressants can improve the prognosis. Also, a close relationship between pediatricians, pediatric rheumatologists and ophthalmologists to effectively monitor these patients will be helpful.
