A New Approach to Cutting Tool Selection Using the Taguchi Method and Expert System

This paper describes a hybrid system that applies the Taguchi method and the knowledge-based expert system technique to select cutting tools. This paper discuses the advantages and disadvantages of the Taguchi method and that of the knowledge-based expert system approach. Finally, a conceptual model that combines the features of a knowledge-based approach with that of the Taguchi method is proposed.
