As the price of the memory is falling, expanding your own memory system in personal computer is more popular than ever. However, limited to the working environment of MS-DOS, the software designer can't utilize the extra memory in the system as many as he wants. Some kinds of application development, such as image processing, may require lots of memory space to store or swap the image data, thus they can't be developed well in the order of personal computers. It becomes highly important to manage the system memory as well as possible. In this paper, we concentrate on how to manage and apply the extended memory for temporary data storage. Applications for other kinds of extra added memory will be discussed in other papers.
