摘要

隨著記憶體價格的日益滑落，擴充個人電腦（Personal Computer，PC）系統的記憶體空間已日加普遍。然而侷限於MS-DOS作業環境的限制，額外增加的記憶體，並無法讓軟體設計師隨心所欲地應用。有些需要大量記憶體存取的應用程式，如影像處理，就無法在個人電腦的領域大力發展。所以對於系統中記憶體的管理與應用，就顯得非常重要。本文討論的重點，即是針對如何管理與應用延伸記憶體作為資料的存取緩衝區（buffer）。至於其他型態記憶體的應用，則留待另文說明之。

As the price of the memory is falling, expanding your own memory system in personal computer is more popular than ever. However, limited to the working environment of MS-DOS, the software designer can't utilize the extra memory in the system as many as he wants. Some kinds of application development, such as image processing, may require lots of memory space to store or swap the image data, thus they can't be developed well in the order of personal computers. It becomes highly important to manage the system memory as well as possible. In this paper, we concentrate on how to manage and apply the extended memory for temporary data storage. Applications for other kinds of extra added memory will be discussed in other papers.
