First of all, this study found that stock portfolios recommended weekly by brokerage firms earn abnormal returns even after considering transaction costs. Second, positive relationship was found between numbers of recommendations by brokerage firms and abnormal returns. Finally, stocks recommended by brokerage firms with the following characteristics were more likely to earn higher returns: higher information asymmetry, larger prior period returns, lower turnover rate, and smaller size.
