An Analysis of Factors Related to Noise-Induced High-Frequency Hearing Loss in Army Military Officers and Soldiers

摘要

Purpose: The noise induced hearing loss is an important issue in the army. Our purpose is to explore the prevalence of noise induced hearing loss in army officers and soldiers in the different environment.Method: The survey adopts prospective study design. The study is conducted in the army in the northern city in Taiwan from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. The definition of hearing impairment is made as the pure-tone average 25-dB hearing level of pure-tone thresholds at low/midfrequencies (500; 1,000; and 2,000 Hz) and high frequencies (3,000; 4,000; 6,000; and 8,000 Hz). The independent risk factors are investigated using logistic regression. Results: The 284 participants completed the completed the audiometric examination and structured self-administered questionnaires. The eligible subjects had a mean age of 24.25 ± 3.66 years. There are 68.3% of subjects with less than 25 years of age, 29.2% of subjects with 25-35 years old, 2.5% of subjects aged 35-45 years old. No sex differences in low/mid-frequency and high frequencies hearing impairment were observed. In the low/mid-frequency, the mean pure tone average of better ear is 22.38 ± 7.51 dB. In the high frequency, the mean pure tone average of better ear is 24.50 ± 12.68 dB.
