It is very difficult to include every aspect of fundamental music knowledge and music appreciation within a limited 2-hour per week class. Teachers, therefore, must develop an efficient instructional system to provide more music knowledge and to stimulate students' interest in learning. With the rapid growth of computer networks and Internet World Wide Web (WWW) technology, we can combine computer networks, WWW technology and multimedia to develop a web-aided instructional support system. This paper first discusses the development and effects of combining computer networks and Internet World Wide Web (WWW) technology on general music education. Then it summarizes the advantages and proposes some approaches to using a Web-aided Instructional Support System to resolve existing problems and to improve teaching quality and students' learning in general music instruction.
