Basketball is one of the most popular sports in Taiwan and worldwide. In this article, common basketball injuries and injury rates in different age groups including primary and secondary school period, high school period, college period and professional period are explored. Most injuries are lower extremity injuries; however, almost all injuries occur at different rates in different age groups. The cause and prevention of injury are also discussed. The findings suggest that monitoring sports injuries and training load are needed. Explicit prospective data collection in games and practices provides information necessary for the authorities concerned to better understand the problem and to develop strategies for preventing basketball injuries in different age groups in Taiwan.
