With an increasing number of elders in the population, more professional nurses need to be prepared to work with elderly people. This paper offers a brief exploration of the major physiological changes that occur with aging in the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, and in vision and hearing, and the related nursing interventions. Although aging is progressive and inescapable, many life-style and health habits can be modified to accommodate the physiological changes that occur. If nurses understand these physiological changes, they can help elderly people adapt to physical deficits by using effective nursing interventions. Finally the patient adjustment will improve quality of life and will allow him or her to enjoy life again.
