誤用統計方法對牙周再生手術治療效果的臨床因素之影響

牙周再生被視為牙周病治療的終極目標，也是牙周病醫師面對的最艱難挑戰之一。使用引導組織再生手術或是牙釉基質衍生物治療骨內缺損和牙根分叉侵犯至今已有多年的歷史，其牙周再生的效果優於傳統牙周翻瓣手術已無異議。然而，對臨床醫師而言，最想瞭解的是到底如何能於治療前預測治療的結果？所以過去不少的牙周病學文獻試圖應用統計學的方法，或是實驗設計來找出這些因子，並且推估它們對治療效果影響的程度。然而，過去這些牙周病學文獻常常做出不一致的結論，或是得到出乎意料的結果。本篇論文的主要目的，是要以統計學的角度來探討影響牙周再生手術治療效果的臨床因素。利用幾個常常被誤解、或誤用的重要的統計學觀念，來深入剖析一些具有代表性的牙周再生手術方面的研究，以提供臨床醫師治療之參考。

Periodontal regeneration bas been considered as the ultimate goal of periodontal therapy and the most demanding challenge to the periodontists. Guided tissue regeneration (GTR) or enamel matrix derivatives (EMD) has been utilized to treat infrabony defects and furcation involvement for many years, and their superiority over traditional flap operations have been proved in many studies. Although many studies have used complex statistical methods and experimental design to investigate the associations between the potential factors and the treatment outcomes in periodontal regeneration, these studies tended to make inconclusive conclusions or inconsistent results. To demonstrate the weakness and strength of the previous literature, in this review, the experimental design and research methodologies in these studies were scrutinized from the statistical point of view. Discussion is mainly focused on several landmark articles in periodontal regeneration.
