Recording of Gingival Overgrowth in Rats: Comparison of Two Measurements

量測大白鼠牙齦腫大：兩種測量方法之比較

摘要

爲精確獲得立體型態變化是研究牙齦腫大之必要條件，但測量技巧是否能率確表達腫大之牙齦，卻缺乏深入之探討。本研究之目的係藉由環胞靈誘導牙齦腫大之白鼠模型以比較“牙齦囊袋探測深度”及“角化牙齦寬度”兩種量測腫大方法間之相似程度。實驗共選大白鼠30隻分三組，每日給予0，10或30公克環胞靈以誘導牙齦腫大。四週後犧牲動物，取下下顎標本，置顯微鏡下以特製探針探測牙齦囊袋深度並度量角化牙齦寬度。結果囊袋探測深度隨環胞靈藥劑量增加而越深；牙齦寬度亦隨越大，但牙齦寬度因測量部位而異。在比對兩種量測下，探測深度與牙齦寬度呈正相關，尤在相近部位（臼齒遠心頰側）特別明顯。由結果推論牙齦腫大之兩種量測方法（牙齦囊袋探測深度及角化牙齦寬度）雖各由其優缺點但均可行作爲利量腫大牙齦之參考。

Accurate recording the three-dimentional morphology of gingiva is an important key process in the assessments of gingival overgrowth. However, limited study is focusing on investigating or comparing the accuracy of the recording methods. In this study, two measurements, probing the gingival pocket depth and measuring the keratinized gingiva width around molars, were compared in an animal model of cyclosporine-A (CsA) induced gingival overgrowth. Thirty rats were assigned to three groups. In each group, ten rats received 0, 10 or 30 mg/kg CsA by daily gastric feeding. All animals were killed at the end of week 4. The probing pocket depth at the disto-buccal site of mandibular first molar was measured by a plastic probe under the stereomicroscope. The width of keratinized gingival was also measured at mesio-, mid-and disto-buccal sites. Results showed that the probing pocket depths were significantly influenced by drug dosages and the keratinized gingiva widths were significantly influenced by drug dosages and examining sites. By regression analysis, a positive correlation between the probing pocket depth and the keratinized gingiva width at three sites was found, but the greatest correlation was noted at the near by disto-buccal site. Therefore, we suggest that the two measurements are good for recording the overgrown gingiva, although the probing pocket depth and the gingival width measuring present their own strength and weakness.
