This research aimed to investigate the correlation of Qigong exercise on adults' electroencephalogram (EEG) and Profile of Mood State (POMS). Twenty female adults were divided into two groups: the experiment group (EG, n=10), and the control group (CTL, n=10). All subjects were measured with their brain wave and were asked to fill in a survey of POMS before and after the experiment. The measurement of brain wave adopted the 10-20 system and chooses Fp1, FPz, Fp2, F3, Fz, F4, F7, F8, C3, Cz, C4, T3, T4, T5, T6, P3, Pz and P4 as the 15 target sites for recording and throughout the 13-minute measurement process, every subject was expected to hold a supine position when the researcher picked the data during 5-minute interval of α, θ wave from the 4th to the 8th minute. All the data were analyzed by the software of SPSS 12.01 for Window with one-way ANOVA, dependent t-test, and Person's product-moment correlation observed α=.05. The results as following: (1) there were no significant difference between EG and CTL with brain wave of average α and θ wave power. (2) In the EG, there was significant correlation between α wave power and score of tension dimensions in pre test, but there was not significantly correlation in the post one. (3) In the total score of the dimension of reduction of mood disturbance, there were significantly positive correlation between sub-scale named confusion, fatigue, anger, tension, and depression, and there was not significantly negative correlation between sub-scale named vigor and esteem dimension. (4) In the pre and post test of CTL, there were significant correlation between α, θ wave power and score of sub-scale named confusion (r=.70~.76, p<.05; r=.90~.89; p<.05), but there was not significantly correlation between the total score of the dimension and others sub-scale dimension of POMS scale. Conclusion: The research showed that there was no significant chronic effect on α, θ brain waves average power of three months Qigong exercise but it could have the benefits of dispelling fatigue, creating relaxation, stabilizing emotion and smoothing mood state. It could reveal that between different groups, there were significant correlation between brain wave and sub-scale of POMS.
