The Weighting and Hierarchical Analysis of the Contents in Technical English for Technology University

並列摘要

It is well-known that English is a very important foundation in technical and vocational education system. English is classified in the application of technology categories, and it is called technical English. However, it seems to be difficult to catch the right direction of the teaching content and direction so far, which results in students' in-depth understanding of learning professional subjects. Although there are series of relevant teaching materials in the market, the ones related to technical English discussion still use the traditional methods, that is, teaching chapter after chapter. There isn't a series study of relevant content and hierarchical arrangement to help teachers and learners understand the content more. In view of this, the paper first focuses on the grammar field of technical English, and designs a 36-hour course of technical English grammar, including nine units of nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, phrases and punctuations. Next, we use the grey entropy and Interpretive Structure Modeling (ISM) methods in kansei engineering, and we interview the experienced English teachers who are responsible for teaching technical English. The order of importance and the relevant sequence of each chapter can be determined. Then through the grey entropy and ISM methods, the weighting and hierarchical relationship can be analyzed. Through practical experimental tests, we found that some chapters belong to the same hierarchy, which represents the teaching coherence and reaches the optimal teaching combination.
