杉浦康平之書籍裝幀與設計方法論之探討

An Investigation of Sugiura Kohei's Book Designs and Design Methodology

摘要


本論文主要探討日本平面設計暨裝幀設計大師杉浦康平(すぎうらこうへいSugiura Kohei)之設計觀及其文化涵養與作品之間的連動性,蓄積逾半世紀的創作能量,杉浦康平對日本乃至於亞洲設計的影響自是深遠;本研究採文本分析法探討杉浦之時代背景,與赴德國烏爾姆任教之經歷,循脈絡分析其形而上之創作思維與形而下之視覺表現,聚焦探討杉浦康平之設計方法論,並整合建構其設計方法論地圖。經研究發現:1、杉浦康平獨樹一格之設計表現乃源於其建築教育背景,經東西方文化洗禮後,理性思維兼具感性且東方之底蘊,逐漸建構其作品風格。2、杉浦將研究所得之方法論應用於作品之中,形而上的設計方法論促成形而下之作品表現,達到內化與體現的完美平衡;尤以「騷音」為杉浦特有之設計語言,其繁複斑斕的表現形式雖有別於時下追求簡約的設計美學,然兩者本質上皆為日式設計美學表現的一環。3、經本研究統整與建構出設計方法論地圖後,其歷時半世紀之設計方法論一目瞭然,預期可有效提高與聚焦其設計方法論之傳播。總體而言,設計師的設計思維決定作品的深度與廣度,杉浦康平歷經半世紀創作且持續創建新思維,顯見其充沛的創作能量;經本研究分析與統整,可提升創作與研究參考效率,亦為設計領域帶來更多正向的省思。

This thesis primarily investigates the design concepts of Sugiura Kohei, Japan's master of graphic and book design, and the connections between cultural literacy and his works. With a creative energy accumulated for over half a century, Sugiura's influence on Japanese and even Asian designs is profound. In this study, textual analysis is used to explore Sugiura's times and his teaching experiences in Ulm, Germany. This study analyzes his metaphysical creative thinking and physical visual expressions, focusing on investigating his design methodology and integrating and constructing his design methodology map. It was found that (1.) Sugiura's unique design perspective originated from his background in architectural education. Having been influenced by both Eastern and Western cultures, his rational thinking is intertwined with a sentimental Eastern element, by which he gradually developed the style of his works. (2.) Sugiura applies the methodology of his research to his works. The metaphysical design methodology shapes the expression of his physical works, and they attain a perfect balance between internalization and manifestation. In particular, "noise" is Sugiura's unique design language; although its complex and gorgeous form of expression is different from current design aesthetics that strives for simplicity, it is nevertheless essentially part of the expression of Japanese design aesthetics like the latter. (3.) Through the design methodology map that is integrated and constructed by this study, Sugiura's design methodology that spans half a century has leapt to the eye. This can effectively increase the focus on the dissemination of his design methodology. On the whole, design thinking determines the depth and breadth of designers' works. Sugiura's creations over the past half century and the continued evolution of his thinking clearly reveal his abundant creative energy. The analysis and integration in this study can increase the efficiency of reference for creation and research and bring forth more positive reflections for the design field as well.
