The development of organic farming in Taiwan was affected by the continuous growth of the organic sector in the world. However, there are some initiating factors that resulting in the development of organic farming in Taiwan. First of all, the large amount of animal excreta resulting from intensive livestock production needs to be managed or the environmental pollution will occur. In recent twenty years, scientists devote themselves in studying composting, utilization of composts in crop cultivation, effects of composts on soil quality, and finding natural products to protect crop from pests and disease. They get good results. The reason for slow rate in the increase in acreage of organic farming is not technical and theoretical but conceptual. From the point of view of sustainability organic farming is a promising agricultural method and needs to be concerned more and more.
