National competitiveness has been regarded as a measure of a nation's overall economic development and sustainability. Based on the prior studies regarding national competitiveness, a series of discussions with the scholars in Southeast Asian countries, literature review and expert interviews, this study develops a framework to measure the national competitiveness of Thailand. The framework consists of five categories: economic performance, technology development, human resources, management, and productivity. The corresponding sub-categories for each category and indicators for sub-categories are designed from Thailand's perspective. The results indicate that Thailand scores high on manpower use and maintains its competitive advantage by low labor costs. However, several weaknesses, which consist of skill level of labor force, basic infrastructure, information technology, turnover and labor disputes, innovation capability, and cooperation between suppliers and manufacturers, are also found in the study. These results may provide a useful reference for Thailand government in formulating its policies.
