Impaction of maxillary permanent canine is a common problem in daily orthodontic practice. Apart from the third molar, maxillary canine is the most predisposing tooth to impaction. It is essential for clinicians to realize the characteristics of impacted tooth and its eruptive pattern, so that the proper diagnosis and treatment can be achieved. This article is presented with features of the incidence, the predisposing position, the etiology, and the possible adverse effect of the impacted canine. The aspects of diagnosis and treatment are discussed as well. The regime of managing impacted maxillary canine has been well established. Two clinical cases are demonstrated in terms of management procedures and treatment outcome. The key to successfully manage the impacted maxillary canine is to diagnose and treat the problem as early as possible.
