Social media continue to proliferate. This paper summarizes a literature review of cases of social media knowledge sharing and models of social medial enabled knowledge management. Our qualitative analysis suggests that the observed knowledge management models consider social media to be communication tools to support basic knowledge management functions, and thus have limitations in conceptualizing effective social media knowledge sharing in general. The analysis also indicates that sustainability and socialization, the two key concepts presented in the reviewed cases of social media knowledge sharing, are missing in the extant knowledge management models. The paper proposes a conceptual model of social media knowledge sharing development for individuals or organizations to effectively use social media in the broad social environment.
