Excellent performance in basketball comes from routine adherence to a precisely-crafted, effective exercise training program. This paper aimed to integrate a review of previous literature with the details of actual case analyses to indicate that effective exercise training programs should incorporate these factors: a diagnosis of each athlete, a sports index, clear goals and objectives for each stage of training, an implementation strategy, a game schedule, a plan of optimal training loads for each stage, the selection of training methods and means, application of the correct training load, a set of recovery methods, and the establishment of assessment standards for later review of each stage. In addition, preparation of training programs should be based on holistic principles. The combination of sports training theories with appropriate training methods will promote the success of the players in international games.
