Marine education has been listed as a subject to be integrated into the curriculum in the 12-year basic education for a long time. However, aside from universities having maritime-related departments, most tertiary schools do not have marine education courses. This deficiency contributes to an increasing trend of societal alienation from the ocean and neglects the importance of understanding the marine environment. Combining teaching experience with a related literature review, this paper intends to promote the adoption of canoeing as a central teaching activity for universities and the integration of marine education issues into water sports courses. The results show that students can understand the unique history, culture, and natural environment of the Tamsui River by following these teaching methods. Students can also view learning materials on mobile devices as the teacher explains and guides them during canoeing in the Tamsui River. Students are guided to prepare for the course by watching videos about the history and natural ecology of the Tamsui River. They also need to hand in assignments at the end of the course. We hope this example will serve as a reference for teachers designing related pedagogical plans for native education, environmental education, and marine education issues.
