Reliability and injury Prediction of Functional Movement Screen^(TM): A Systematic Review

Background and Purpose: Functional Movement Screen is a tool for determining and scoring performance in specific movement patterns introduced by Gray Cook. This tool assessed an individual's movement limitations and asymmetries so as to design the correction and training program, improve performance in sports and avoid incorrect body awareness. Although Functional Movement Screen has been widely employed in medical and sports training in recent years, there is neither formal evidence nor systematic review of its assessment performance. The purpose of this study is to review the reliability and injury prediction of this assessment tool. Methods: The reliability and injury prediction of the Functional Movement Screen previously reported in English and Chinese on the PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane library, Pedro, and CEPS were systematically reviewed. Results and Conclusion: There were 11 articles on reliability and injury prediction of the Functional Movement Screen, reporting moderate to high reliability. A score of 14 or below assessed by the Functional Movement Screen indicates higher incidence of injury.
