The aim of this study was to explore caregivers' need for respite care of chronic psychiatric patients in the community. This research was a descriptive, stratified random sampling study. Data was collected by using structured questionnaires. Data analysis was performed with SPSS for Windows version 10.0. to obtain descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and regression analyses. There are 125 subjects, most of parents and female. Young caregivers (age below thirty) and singles were with more needs than widows. As for the content of psycho-educational needs in three dimensions, ”the knowledge related to disease” was the most important concern for caregivers. The results implicated that health professionals have to understand the psycho-educational needs for caregivers in the community in order to fit in family needs, that provide better quality of care for medical service.
