This study investigated influences on the decisions of seniors graduating from two-year colleges regarding whether to either continue their education or to enter into the job market upon graduation. The cross-sectional method was employed. Structural questionnaires, modified based on validity examination, were sent to 389 seniors studying at the Chungtai Institute of Health Sciences and Technology. 359 of the 389 seniors returned completed questionnaires, representing a response rate of 92.3%. Overall, this investigation found that 21.4% of the students planned to continue their education, while the majority (78.3%) planned to enter the workforce. Of all departments, the Department of Food Science contained the highest percentage rate of students planning to seek further education (35%). In all departments, the percentage of students choosing to enter the job market ranged from 70% to 80%. Generally, the two main reasons for respondents to continue their education were to receive higher degrees (41.6%) and to fulfill educational requirements connected with their future employment plans (40.3%). Additionally, it was found that 50% of respondents planned to continue their education simply to gain social status, a second area of expertise, or a white collar job. Approximately 80% of the students chose to seek employment. The main reason for this choice was to improve family income (37.9%). Moreover, the study found that salary (20.1%), job security and stability (17.7%) were related to the key factors considered during job selection. Finally, the results demonstrated that the influences on student plans following graduation were significantly associated with gender, college major, and part-time work experience. This study indicates that most students have confidence in their professional knowledge, skills, and adaptability, yet lack confidence in their practical experience and linguistic abilities. Therefore, it is important for students to have a second specialty and to improve their English abilities. The school should provide students with information on the employment needs of society. Moreover, the government should enforce professional licensing policies.
