This article reviews recent experimental researches to investigate the benefits of physical activity on cognitive function of elderly adults. We provide preventive and therapeutic physical activities for healthy community-dwelling elderly and frail elderly with cognitive impairment in clinics or long-term care institutions to achieve the goal in promoting healthy aging and improving/retarding cognitive function decline. Possible mechanisms on the benefits and the limitations and future development in related researches are also discussed.
