【論文摘要】Influence of Physical Activity on Round Shoulder Posture in Healthy Young Adults

【論文摘要】針對健康年輕人探討其身體活動度高低對圓肩姿勢的影響

摘要

Background and Purpose: Previous studies indicated that healthy young adults with low physical activity level showed poor musculoskeletal health. In addition, studies also proposed that sedentary adults tended to have faulty posture such as forward neck posture, slouched posture, or round shoulder posture. However, there is few study of investigating the influence between physical activity level and round shoulder posture. In this point of view, the influence of physical activity on round shoulder posture would be investigated in healthy young adults. Methods: 17 healthy young adults (21.08 ± 0.78 years) with high physical activity level (≥ 3000 MET/week) and 17 healthy ones (21.18 ± 1.24 years) with low physical activity level (< 3000 MET/week) were recruited in this study. To determine their physical activity level, all of them underwent the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The scapular index (SI) would calculate to access the round shoulder posture. The independent t-test was used to examine for difference in SI between the 2 groups. Results: There was significant difference in SI for the two groups (p = 0.012). Moreover, the low physical activity group (SI = 56.91 ± 3.33) showed lower SI than the high physical activity group (SI = 57.98 ± 1.52). Conclusions: Following this study, the healthy young adults with low physical activity level would get lower SI than the healthy ones with high physical activity level. It means that subjects with low physical activity level could negatively affect shoulder posture. Clinical Relevance: For health considerations, a regular check to round shoulder posture in low physical activity level subjects is necessary.
