The Improvement Effects of Probiotic and Phospholipid Liposomes Composite Products on Function of Gastrointestinal Tract

The gastrointestinal tract is not only the largest digestive organ but also the organ with the largest surface area in the human body. The functions of the gastrointestinal tract play a very important role in the health of human. However, when human getting old, the body's functions will decline and so does the intestinal functions. This study aimed to investigate the improvement effects of product, combined with phospholipid liposomes and Lactobacillus plantarum, on animal models of constipation and colitis. As the results, the number of feces in the colon of loperamide-induced constipation rats were decreased after treating with different dosages of product. Among them, the 5X groups had the lowest amount of feces (5.00 ± 2.10; p < 0.05). In the colitis model, the disease activity index of mice which treatment with product were significantly lower than that of the dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) group ( p < 0.05) after the 18th day on the experiment. In addition, compared with induced group, not only the malondialdehyde levels in colon of mice but also the superoxide dismutase activities were significant improvement after treating with product ( p < 0.05). Furthermore, the tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6 levels of the colon of 1X group were significantly lower than that in the DSS group ( p < 0.05). In conclusion, products have the potential to improve constipation or colitis.
