摘要

美國圖書館與資訊科學教育之認可是由美國圖書館學會擔任評書機構與負責認可。該學會自1924年起開始制訂評鑑標準，並且定期對美國與加拿大地區圖書館與資訊科學碩士教育進行認可與評鑑。美國圖書館與資訊科學教育認可之目的主要在保護公眾利益，並提供教育者教學的方向。同時，讓學生、圖書館界與關心圖書館及資訊服務品質的社會大眾知道認可的結果，藉此確認學校的教育品質，以保障自身的利益。美國圖書館與資訊科學教育認可標準主要由美國圖書館學會研訂，以維持其專業教育之水準。最新版標準為1992年公布的「圖書館與資訊研究碩士：學程認可標準」。本文旨在探討美國圖書館與資訊科學教育認可制度與認可標準，內容涵蓋美國圖書館與資訊科學教育現況、認可制度的意義與功能、發展歷史、認可委員會、認可原則與程序、以及認可標準的功能、名稱範圍、適用教育層級、研訂單位、發展簡史、與標準內涵等。

Accreditations the main means to maintain quality education of library and information science education in the United States. Standards for accreditation are used to evaluate master's programs in library and information science. This article mainly discusses accreditation and standards of library and information science education in the United States. Firstly, it reviews present state of library and information science schools in the United States. Then, it explores meanings functions, history, as well as procedures of accreditation for library and information science education. Finally, it studies the ”Standards for Accreditation of Master's Programs in Library & Information Studies 1992”.
