A Treatment Option of Transarterial Embolization for Pheochromocytoma Metastatic to the Liver: A Case Report

利用經動脈血管栓塞治療巨大嗜鉻細胞肝轉移:個例報告

並列摘要

A 37-year-old Taiwanese man developed liver metastases of pheochromocytoma 4 years after the initial surgical resection in January 1997. A recurrent mass in the supra-adrenal area and enlarged retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy with encasement of inferior vena cava were detected in May 1999. These lesions were well controlled after chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Two 3.0-cm hepatic lesions were found in August 2001. One lesion was amenable to complete treatment with transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE). The other was partially treated with TAE; complete treatment was precluded owing to extensive collateralization of vessels. Follow-up CT study 3 months later showed significant regression of the completely treated lesion. The partially treated lesion continued to enlarge. Herein we present an option for the treatment of hepatic metastasis of pheochromocytoma by transcatheter arterial embolization without concurrent use of catheter-injected chemotherapy.
