Highway Pavement needs continuous evaluation in order to keep expected service to the traffic through its design life. The major data that shall be periodically collected include pavement distresses data (functional condition), deflection data (structural bearing capability), roughness (riding quality), and skid resistance (safety). Technologies for data collection have been developed and improved dramatically for last decades. There are single functional and multi-functional devices that can be used to conduct pavement evaluation Through literature review, developed technologies and devices are introduced and analyzed in this study. In addition, the recommended procedure for pavement evaluation and the criteria for selecting the most appropriate device (s) for data collection are also developed and presented.
