姑獲鳥文化意涵之探討

Exploring the cultural implications of the Ubume

摘要


姑獲鳥,據傳是不祥之鳥,其具有「衣取小兒」、「血、羽致病」、「稟性畏犬」、「人日為崇」、「畏光聲吵」等特性。本文先討論姑獲鳥的相關特性,繼而從「非 常為厲」的角度切入,認為其因無巫覡的介入,且對人無利益,因此遭到「醜化」,被視作不祥。而荊楚地區向來被視作「信巫鬼,重淫祀」之地,姑獲鳥的傳說,可能只是人對小兒莫名生病或死亡的解釋。換言之,人們為禳除姑獲鳥所作的種種儀式活動,一方面反映了當時養育人口的不易,另一方面,或和對人日的生殖崇拜有關。因此,帶有不祥意義的姑獲鳥,藉由驅逐之而使小兒獲平安,其實也只是反映了人類祈求平安順利的願望罷了!
