According to the review on the history of homosexual literature and research of homosexual literature in Taiwan, this study has found that the mainstream of homosexual writing in Taiwan is novels, but proses of homosexuality are extremely rare. However, in recent ten years (2011-2020), the proses of homosexuality have been published intensively, and this study examines and interprets this phenomenon as follows. Firstly, due to the fictional nature of novels and the concealment of poems, the exclusion of authorship is emphasized under the discussion of novels about homosexuality or poems about homosexuality. Proses are mostly regarded as an extension of the authors and are highly connected with the authors' life experiences. Therefore, the authors writing proses on homosexuality certainly will undergo the pressure of coming out. This might be the reason why the development of proses in homosexual literature is late compared to that of other forms of literature. However, the fact that the proses are based on real stories rather than fictional is one of the characteristics that those proses attempt to emphasize or disclose For example, the titles of many proses directly reveal I/We [am/are] homosexual in the first person, or use homosexual attributes (Gay, lesbian, or T) and gender flow (tomboy or sissy). Many writers and same-sex couples are featured on book covers, emphasizing that the content and the author are associated with homosexuality. This phenomenon echoes the increasingly open social atmosphere where the issue of marriage equality has been valued during this period, as well as the impact of the emergence of Facebook on writing and reading patterns. Writers candidly reveal homosexuality through proses, which makes prose writing a coming-out strategy that both witnesses and promotes the homosexual movement towards a new milestone.
